At POWERtalk Stirling, we like to think of our meetings as “fun evenings” with valuable educational benefits and the chance to build self-esteem. You can develop your public-speaking skills in a friendly, supportive atmosphere.
POWERtalk Stirling meetings are very much ‘learning by doing’ occasions. Meetings are normally in two parts, the Business Meeting and the Speaking Programme.
The President conducts the business meeting, dealing with interclub news, finance, and social matters. This also gives members practice in business meeting procedure.
In the Speaking Programme the chairman for the evening decides on the format. The following are some of the choices available: –
- Speech (prepared talk of 5-8 minutes)
- Debate
- Topics (short, impromptu talk, maximum 2 minutes)
- Workshops (listening skills/speech construction/voice projection)
- Readings
The speeches are evaluated by experienced members to provide valuable feedback and recommendations for improvement. The total meeting is also given a general evaluation. Everyone who participates is evaluated.
